Day 1
We depart from our office at Larissa Station on Saturday at 07:00 in the morning. We start our journey with our first stop at Meteora, where we will take a short walk and take photos of this beautiful landmark at one of the monasteries, for those who weren’t able to join us on our previous trip.
From Meteora, we will depart for Metsovo, a distance of 62 kilometers, passing through a beautiful mountainous route where we will pass various picturesque villages (Mourgani, Megali Kerasia, Orthovouni, Trygona, Korydallos, Panagia, Malakasi, Anilio) before arriving in Metsovo. We will check into the hotel where we will stay overnight, and after that, we will have plenty of free time to enjoy the cosmopolitan winter resort.
Built amphitheatrically in a forested valley below the peak of Kataras, this rugged stone mass of Pindos, Metsovo stubbornly maintains its traditional character. It is a prime example of a mountain village that thrives all year round and offers visitors so many beauties that are rare to find in similar destinations.
Especially during the winter season, the famous Vlacho village, birthplace of great national benefactors (Tositsas, Stournaras, Averoff, etc.), is a constant value on the tourist map of Epirus. Half-hidden in the mist or wrapped in a white snow mantle, it looks like a painting calling us to enjoy it with all our senses.
- We will see marvelous places of art and culture that introduce us to a living tradition.
- We will tour the gray kingdom of stone, adorned with red tile roofs and green touches of nature.
- We will admire the two-story mansions with their verandas and heavy wooden doors.
- We will quench our thirst at stone-built fountains and taste the famous local delicacies.
Day 2
After a hearty breakfast at our hotel, we will depart for Ioannina.
The city of arts and silversmiths. The castle, the lake with the island, the cave, the old town with its traditional shops, and the numerous old mansions that dominate the city cannot fail to captivate you.
We will explore the cultural heritage and tradition on the island of the Byzantines. A short boat ride across the lake takes us to the island, which is overflowing with sights. Here, we will meet our guide, who will lead us along the paths of history and expand our knowledge. We will enjoy a walk along the lakeside pedestrian street of Ioannina.
We will discover the castle of religions and cultures, enjoy coffee with a view of Its Kale, the impressive citadel, surrounded by the buildings and walls of Its Kale, offering a view of the lake, and you will feel like you are moving through different historical periods. As we walk, you will see the Fetiche Mosque, built in 1795 by Ali Pasha.
In the taverns on the island, we can taste not only local delicacies but also trout or eel.
In the afternoon, we will take the road back to Athens, with necessary stops along the way. We look forward to having you with us on this trip, enjoying nature, pleasure, and history.
